DARYN KAGAN, ANCHOR: Heading out to Hollywood today for CNN's Academy Award coverage. It begins tomorrow.
I've been talking with several of the nominees ahead of the award telecast on Sunday night. Recently, I sat down with actress Marcia Gay Harden. She is up for best supporting actress for "Mystic River."

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Marcia!

MARCIA GAY HARDEN, NOMINATED FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: The first time is always a huge thrill. Always. And there's nothing like it, because it's so new.

But there's nothing old hat about it for me. It's still completely thrilling. My husband and I were jumping up and down for joy. The phone is ringing. Of course, people sending flowers. It's so wonderful. And it's a really bright, bright jewel for me right now. It's lovely.

(as Celeste Boyle) There's still nothing in the paper.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: About what?

HARDEN: About what?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know, honey, maybe I didn't hurt him as bad as I thought. He's a mugger. He's not going to a hospital.

HARDEN: Yes. Right.

(as herself) I typically think for me that the character has to feel like -- that there's something specific that Marcia could say with that character. And I'm sometimes not even sure what it is. It jumped off the page and hits me. And I think, "I could -- I want to do that. I want to try that."

(as Celeste Boyle) It isn't making any sense.

(as herself) The nomination's always such a tough thing because there's so many deserving performances.

In this case, shooting the film, you felt like everybody was right there together. Sean said, he felt like we were are rooting for each other to do the best work we could do under the guidance with Clint. And then now, in this moment, I feel like we're still all together, rooting for each other. And it was -- It's a real high, because I feel like the work was great. And I feel like it's all deserving. And I'm happy to see it honored.

(as Celeste Boyle) Where have you been?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

KAGAN: Marcia Gay Harden, pregnant with twins. Watch for her at the Oscars. I am getting on a plane in just a couple hours. Starting tomorrow morning, I'll see you live from Los Angeles.
