CARLA HATFIELD, TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA: Hello, my name is Carla Hatfield. I'm from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. And my question is who determines the fashions for each season?

SALLY SINGER, "VOGUE" FASHION NEWS AND FEATURES DIRECTOR: I would say, from perspective of "Vogue" magazine, the designers do, because what is shown in the runway shows will ultimately make it to every level of the market, so that if you shop at Old Navy or if you shop at Banana Republic, what you'll find there has been somewhat inspired by what was shown on the catwalks.

What inspires the designers is one of those questions that we ask every season, when we see what they've presented. Recently, there's been a lot of emphasis put on the use of vintage in designers' collections and how designers are turning to the history of fashion to make new fashions. I think that that's always been the case, because designers go into business because they love clothes, and they love looking back over the history of clothes. But I think it's always about the way young people are wearing old clothes on the streets that somehow inspires them to rethink and recontextualize those vintage pieces: It's always about the street and youth.
