LEON HARRIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Speaking of entertaining...

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: OK.

HARRIS: We have some "Showbiz" news this morning. Let's check in now with our Michael Okwu, who is sitting by in New York as usual -- good morning, Michael.

MICHAEL OKWU, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning guys. You are so smooth with those segues I can't get over it.

HARRIS: That's what we're here for.

KAGAN: Slick.

OKWU: Unbelievable. How do you do that?

Well, country music celebrated its brightest stars in Los Angeles last night at the 36th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Faith Hill won the award for top female vocalist. Toby Keith bagged an award for the first time in his nine year career and he did it in style. He took home two, while Lee Ann Womack and the Dixie Chicks cleaned up with three awards each.

Stuart Townsend hasn't won any awards yet, but that could all change. The actor stars with Kate Hudson in the new movie "About Adam" and he's got a few more leading roles to follow.

CNN's Lori Blackman talked to this "Showbiz Today Reports" "Star of tomorrow."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "ABOUT ADAM")

STUART TOWNSEND, ACTOR: Well, hello.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Adam.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Adam!

(END VIDEO CLIP)

LORI BLACKMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: How do you explain yourself, sleeping with three sisters at the same time?

TOWNSEND: How do you explain yourself? It was fun.

BLACKMAN: Do you consider Adam a little wicked?

TOWNSEND: Yeah. He's a little wicked, but in a nice way, you know, and that's what I like about the film. People do come out and they go I hate him. He's bad. And then another person goes no, he makes everything, you know, work out OK in the end. And I think it's whatever you feel, you know? I mean the thing about Adam is he's ambiguous so you never know who the guy is.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "ABOUT ADAM")

TOWNSEND: Maybe we could have a good chat sometime.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Cool. I'd love that.

TOWNSEND: Hug?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TOWNSEND: It wasn't much of a stretch because it was just me doing an Irish accent playing me, you know? Just having a laugh and it's a comedy so it's not, you know, harmless or anything like that.

BLACKMAN: I read a quote, the filmmaker said as soon as we saw this character we knew Stuart Townsend was this character. He was Adam. Why?

TOWNSEND: Because there's only about three Irish young guys out there at the moment. So, yeah, there wasn't much choice. They had to give it to me.

BLACKMAN: Do you have a preference between the stage and the screen?

TOWNSEND: Not really. They're both, I love them both. They're both so different. I did a show last year and -- Tennessee Williams in London with Helen Mirren and that was the best experience, working wise, I've ever had. But I can't say, I mean I love film as well. It's very different.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "ABOUT ADAM")

KATE HUDSON, ACTRESS: Could I see you again, meet you, maybe?

TOWNSEND: Wow. Yeah, I'd love to.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BLACKMAN: You have another movie coming out, correct?

TOWNSEND: Yeah. Yeah, "The Queen of the Dames." I'm playing a star character, which was so much fun. It's really great. So I've been in Melbourne for the last four months and now I'm doing another movie.

BLACKMAN: What is this movie called?

TOWNSEND: "Twenty-Four Hours." It's sort of a psychological thriller and with Kevin Bacon, Courtney Love, Charlize Theron.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, "ABOUT ADAM")

UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: Have you had enough of us yet?

TOWNSEND: No, no. It's great. I love your family.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TOWNSEND: I think the career thing, the career thing and the actual creativity are sort of a balance with each other. But the creativity is the best thing, when you get on a project, who you're working with and what you're doing. That's always the most fulfilling thing.

BLACKMAN (voice-over): Lori Blackman, CNN Entertainment News, New York.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

OKWU: Later on "Showbiz Today Reports," these survivors have earned much more than a million dollars. We'll talk to Destiny's Child about the group's hit single "A New Valley." That's at 2:35 p.m. Until then, in New York, I'm Michael Okwu -- now back to Leon in Atlanta.

HARRIS: All right, thanks Michael. We'll see you in a bit.
