In London, 26.2-Mile Walk in Bras to Call Attention to Breast Cancer Draws 8,000 Marchers

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We take you around the world now, to London, where some 8,000 men and women put up a brave front -- or a bra front, you could say -- to raise cancer awareness and funds.

We'll let the pictures and Denise Dillon do the explaining.

DENISE DILLON, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It's not your typical aerobics class: women and men, wearing bras. Bras with flags, bras with flowers -- definitely some folks trying to draw attention to, well, breasts -- actually, breast cancer. And they're doing much more than just flashing their colorful brassieres. They're taking part in a marathon through the streets of London.

This 26.2-mile walk has close to 8,000 participants, but it began as a one-woman crusade four years ago. Nina Barough remembers how frightened she was when she'd learned she had cancer.

NINA BAROUGH, ORGANIZER: But I think if you can take a little bit of fear away, and you can encourage women to act quickly and be really body aware, and keep themselves fitter and look at what they're eating, all those things contribute towards less women dying of breast cancer.

DILLON: Participants were encouraged to decorate their tops. It added a little fun to their walk.

But cancer is no laughing matter, and most of these people know that firsthand. That's why they're here.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My mother had breast cancer, and for six years now she's been in the clear.

DILLON: For the thousands of women and men who stripped down to their bras and walked 26.2 miles, it was well worth it. The event brought in close to $1.5 million for breast cancer research.
