LAURIN SYDNEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The legendary powerhouse blues guitarist Buddy Guy will be 65 next month. And after 40 years of Grammy-winning recording and tireless touring, music critics are hailing his new CD, called "Sweet Tea" as his best yet.

Joining us now, the epitome of Chicago blues, and the best yet, is Mr. Buddy Guy. Thank you for stopping by today.

BUDDY GUY, MUSICIAN: Well, thank you so much for having me. It's an honor.

SYDNEY: Buddy, the last time I saw you in a club, you left the club during your act, went on cars -- on top of them. You were playing that guitar, you almost got arrested. Are those days over?

GUY: No; no. Actually, they made it easier for me now. I had to have a long wire at those times. I still have the wire, but I've got what you call a cordless now. And it's like a remote. I don't have to have a -- so if the -- I mean the cord. So if the car takes off now, I don't have to get off.

SYDNEY: Thank goodness.

But you did decided, in this new, critically acclaimed CD, that you went back to your roots in Mississippi to play a different kind of blues.

GUY: Yes. Actually, it's the type of blues that we all learned, but we had kind of almost forgotten about it until they sent me back down to Mississippi and I heard it. And I said to my record company, which I have to thank them a lot because I said, I don't -- I can't do this. I can't mess up these guys' music. This is a guy I didn't know anything about, who did not leave Mississippi, he just stayed there and played that stuff like it was originally played.

And I said, Jimmy Kimball (ph) -- I say, well, I thought I met them all. I met Muddy Waters, Son House, Fred McDowell and all those people like that. I said hey, buddy, you've got a lot to learn.

SYDNEY: Well, I don't think you have a lot to learn. And we're going to show that by you playing something from your new, critically acclaimed CD called "Sweet Tea."

So Buddy Guy, take it away.

GUY: Thank you.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

SYDNEY: Bob Barker, if you're watching come on down and sign a new contract. The 77-year-old Barker announced yesterday that he has signed on to continue hosting "The Price is Right" for another four years. He made the announcement as he celebrated his 30th anniversary with the game show. It is the longest-running game show in television history.

There is lots more showbiz news a little later today as we talk to David Duchovny and Julianne Moore about their alien comedy "Evolution." That's in our 2:35 Eastern Showbiz Today Report.

Until next time, in New York, I'm Laurin Sydney. And now back to the out-of-this-world Donna in Atlanta.

DONNA KELLEY, CNN ANCHOR: And the same to you, Laurin; thanks very much.
