KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Shifting our focus now to the hostage situation in the Philippines, authorities there are saying it's possible that American hostage Guillermo Sobero is still alive, and it's been two days since Muslim rebels announced they had beheaded him. But his body has not been found, and that's giving his family in California reason to hope.

CNN's Hena Cuevas is live in Corona, California with the latest. Hena, hello.

HENA CUEVAS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kyra. The Sobero family spent the night basically waiting for news out of the Philippines regarding 40-year-old Guillermo Sobero. Last night, Fanny Sobero, his wife, did say that she is hopeful her husband is still alive.

FANNY SOBERO, WIFE OF HOSTAGE: I have to be dealing with my kids not knowing still anything. My financial situation is starting to really get to me, and then, again, this uncertainty about not knowing if the father of the kids that I have is still alive.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CUEVAS: The Corona police department told us this morning that they have two counselors available to the family so that they can come in and talk to them. Yesterday, two female counselors spent a couple of hours with the family, and they say they are ready to come by at any moment today if the family were to need that -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: That's comforting. Hena Cuevas live from Corona, California, thanks for the update.
