President Bush Visits New York

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: President Bush has visited 34 states since his inauguration six months ago. Today he will finally add New York to that list. He is attending a naturalization ceremony on Ellis Island and he will pay tribute to the late Cardinal John O'Connor. There's the president there, a live picture of him on Ellis Island. Our Kelly Wallace is also there -- Kelly, good morning.

KELLY WALLACE, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Daryn.

I am actually a little bit away from Ellis Island, coming to you from midtown Manhattan, where the president will be coming later today. As you mentioned, a couple of firsts on this trip. This, again, the first visit by President Bush to New York since taking office. Also, another first, because joining the president aboard Air Force One en route to New York were New York's two senators, Senator Charles Schumer and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. It is Senator Clinton's first visit on, first trip aboard Air Force One, rather, since her husband left the White House.

But again, the action taking place just a few minutes from now on Ellis Island at the southernmost tip of Manhattan. The president will lead a group of newly sworn in U.S. citizens in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Bush will be also announcing some steps to streamline the citizenship process. He will announce that applications should...

KAGAN: Well, we just lost Kelly's picture there from midtown Manhattan. As she was mentioning, President Bush is on Ellis Island today. He is there to witness and take part in a naturalization ceremony for a number of new American citizens. We'll have more on that and more of President Bush on Ellis Island just ahead.
