DONNA KELLEY, CNN ANCHOR: The U.S. government says that the Code Red worm is active and spreading throughout the Internet right now. But it's still too early to tell how much damage the computer worm will cause.

For the latest, let's turn to CNN's Elaine Quijano. She's at an Internet security firm in Alexandria, Virginia -- Elaine, hello.

ELAINE QUIJANO, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi there, Donna.

Here at Riptech in northern Virginia the analysts behind me have been working hard to monitor the effects of the Code Red worm and in the last seven or eight hours what they have detected is a very slow but very steady increase in the level of activity associated with the Code Red worm.

Now, they tell us that it's nothing to be alarmed about. It's still a very minimal level of activity. But as you said, it is very early to tell here what the actual impact, the full impact of this worm could be. They are saying that this is encouraging news, the fact that it is just a very minimal level of activity, but it's too early to tell whether or not this could have some far reaching impact later on -- Donna.

KELLEY: Elaine Quijano, thanks very much.
