LAURIN SYDNEY, CNN ANCHOR: Today in a Los Angeles courtroom, the marriage of Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise will end, as their divorce is finalized. But last night, the couple united separately at the premier of a new film. The occasion was the Hollywood premier of the horror film "The Others." She stars in, and he produces it. They walked the red carpet far apart last night, but had nothing but nice things to say about each other last night to our very own Sherri Sylvester.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NICOLE KIDMAN, ACTRESS: It just, I think it's sort of weird because it's been three nights, and you know, in New York and then L.A. and stuff. But this is abnormal. Tomorrow I go back to normal life.

SHERRI SYLVESTER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (on camera): And what is normal life? What are your future plans for the rest of the -- I guess for the rest of the year?

KIDMAN: Yes, taking it easy actually. Doing the work that I have to do, and then just take, you know -- being with my kids and going back to Sydney, and I have worked very hard, so I will just take a break, you know, hanging out with the friends.

TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: I think that it's nice and it's great for the movie. We're here to celebrate this picture that we all worked very hard on. So I think that it's nice.

SYDNEY: Singer Mariah Carey's spokesperson confirms that she has been released from a Connecticut hospital. She was being treated there for what was termed -- quote -- "an emotional and physical breakdown." The spokesperson told SHOWBIZ TODAY Carey is under a doctors care at an undisclosed location with her mother.

What good is sitting alone in your room when you can come to Broadway and see the wonderful Brooke Shields staring in the smash hit musical "Cabaret."

And joining us now to tell a secret of how she can work so late into the night and look so great in the morning is Brooke Shields, the star of "Cabaret."

What is the secret?

BROOKE SHIELDS, ACTRESS: Thank you, first of all.

You know what, we had a team of people getting me -- it's interesting, you know, I used to be a morning person, and now the show, you just -- you're sort of so energized by the end of it, that you just -- and you don't get to the sleep until about 2:00 in the morning, and I will probably take a nap before the show.

SYDNEY: Good reason.

SHIELDS: Yes, a good reason.

SYDNEY: Brooke I was there the other night, standing ovations and applauding in the middle of your songs, and here you are, you go from "Suddenly Susan" to suddenly starring on Broadway, with two weeks of rehearsal.

SHIELDS: It's devastating. Can I just say...

SYDNEY: Sure.

SHIELDS: ... I was devastated at the prospect of doing that, and I mean, you are thrown in; it's trial by fire. But the team surrounding me is so supportive, and so ready if you fall, I mean, literally, and then, the music is so genius, and the script is amazing and the choreography is impeccable. And to be part of it, I am so proud to be in the mix that you are just sort of really doing your best and I am surviving it, so.

SYDNEY: Now, I already said how great you are, and now I have to ask, two weeks' rehearsal -- does anything go wrong?

SHIELDS: Almost every night something goes wrong.

SYDNEY: But you cover it up.

SHIELDS: I am opening up my month and not sure to get a word out or I don't even know what the next lyric is. And there's something that takes over, some sort of survival instinct, and I think, like Sally herself, there is -- nothing is going to deter you from your path, and it's amazing.

SYDNEY: Now this musical is not a very airy, tap dancing, light musical.

SHIELDS: No.

SYDNEY: There's a very dark side to this. Is that one of the reasons why you said yes?

SHIELDS: It's such a brilliantly constructed show, and so it is, because the journey that I have to take from the beginning until the end is so unbelievable, and so many different facets to her that it was a challenge that I felt that I could not turn down, because I would be shying away from it just from pure fear.

And you know, it's not a feel good. I people are surprised by that. They think that they will see a Broadway, a musical. It is that. It has all of that, but it engages you and then takes you to a different place, and I think that that's, as a performer, that's what's so hard and also wants feels us every night, you know.

In your personal life you, in a feel good situation. A newlywed, but when do you get to see him. He lives on the other coast.

SHIELDS: He's been doing the frequent flyer thing for sure. He's been definitely putting in his time, which I'm so lucky about, because he is working on the west coast.

SYDNEY: He's a writer no "Spin City."

SHIELDS: "Spin City," yes. And you know, he's been coming and seeing the show, and I am glad that he gets to see the progress of it, you know.

SYDNEY: How many times has he gotten to see it, being a newlywed?

SHIELDS: He comes here every weekend, so he's seen it, oh, gosh, over six or seven times already, so and I think he knows now the progress; he's say, oh, I noticed you held a little bit there, and I noticed that you, you know, elongated that or did this.

SYDNEY: Does he ever want to rewrite any of the lines, the comedy lines?

SHIELDS: You know what, luckily no, luckily no. And the writing is so brilliant, and it's so sort of economy of language, and choreography and the lyrics, and it's thought-provoking, but you don't want to mess with it, and when I do mess with it unintentionally, I'm sorry.

SYDNEY: And we're sorry because we are out of time now. But, Brooke, always a pleasure to see you.

SHIELDS: Thank you.
