MAX MAYFIELD, DIRECTOR, NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER: A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, and that's the designation that we use in the Atlantic, the Eastern Pacific and the Central Pacific. In the Northwest Pacific, they have a different name, typhoon. But a typhoon is the same thing as a hurricane.
