DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to bring you more information and pictures now about nasty wildfire burning in Northern California, very far Northern California, a few hours north of San Fransico. It's in Weaverville, California. Some homes have burned. Also a lot of people have been evacuated from their homes.
Let's go ahead and bring Jane McCarthy. She's with our affiliate KXTV, which I believe is in Sacramento.
Jane, good morning.
JANE MCCARTHY, KXTV REPORTER: Good morning.
We are on the east end of the town of Weaverville right now. About 1,500 people have been evacuated from their homes on the west end of town. That's where the fire is burning. Also a hospital and a jail have been evacuated. Also the hospital now is a makeshift hospital at a school in the area.
You can see right behind me this is one of evacuation centers, where about 1,000 people spent the night last night.
The fire began yesterday afternoon. Sixteen-hundred acres have burned. Nine homes are confirmed lost right now, probably more. There are more homes threatened right now.
The fire is now 10-20 percent contained.
The big problem, though, today, the wind. Yesterday, the wind gust ran up to 30 miles per hour. Today, though, there is expected to be a problem, up to 25 miles an hour, obviously battling that hoping to get a handle on this fire. That's the latest from Trinity Valley, California.
I'm Jane McCarthy. Back to you.
KAGAN: Jane, did you say a jail was evacuated?
MCCARTHY: A jail was also evacuated. They don't know where the inmates have been taken. Again, the hospital also evacuated and they're set up at local school.
KAGAN: Good for them. Jane McCarthy with KXTV in Weaverville, California. Thanks, Jane.
