LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's go check and see what's happening on Capitol Hill.
Kate Snow is checking in, and she's got an update for us on Congressman Condit.
Kate, what's going on?
KATE SNOW, CNN CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Leon, this morning we've been reporting that there was a published report in "The Washington Post" to indicate that Gary Condit had been talking to, quote/unquote, "colleagues" about his political future. CNN has learned from two separate sources closed to Gary Condit that he has not spoken with any other House members, any of his colleagues here in the House on Capitol Hill about whether or not to run for reelection in 2002.
He simply has not had those conversations. I am told by two sources who spoke with Gary Condit directly that he doesn't intend to have those kinds of conversations with these colleagues up here.
We do know, though, now, Leon, that he's been approached by, quote, "dozens" of other members as he's been walking through the halls here in Congress the last few days. And he's been approached with words of well-wishing; I'm told by one source closed to Condit that members have come up to him and said things like, keep your chin up, hang in there, this too shall pass. So -- and some have said, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
So a very warm reception for Gary Condit here on Capitol Hill. But again, he is not speaking with anyone about his political future. Also, just a short time ago, Dick Gephardt, the Democratic minority leader in the House said to reporters that it's up to Gary Condit to decide what his political future will hold, and no one's going to make that decision for him -- Leon.
HARRIS: All right, thank you very much; Kate Snow watching Gary Condit for us this morning.
