UNIDENTIFIED CNN CORRESPONDENT: Matt Lampman from New York, New York asks: "Who makes up the Northern Alliance? What does the Alliance represent?"
HARON AMIN, SPOKESMAN, NORTHERN ALLIANCE: Matt, I should tell you the Northern Alliance are the United Front and is composed of all of the ethnic groups of Afghanistan. And the United Front basically represents about 35 percent of the country and a proportion of the population.
The aim behind the United Front's formation was basically five principles: principle of Islam. Afghan is a predominantly Muslim country. The second principle is the principle of international cooperation. The third principle is the principle of political (UNINTELLIGIBLE) and democracy. Fourth is the principle of evolution of power to the local authorities. And fifth, the right of the people of Afghanistan, including the rights of women, as well as the right to self-determination.
We hope that given the cooperation of all of the segments of the Afghan society as well as the cooperation by the international community, that we hope in the end, we can form a government in Afghanistan, that will be broad based and multiethnic.
