BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Overseas, now, in the military front, the U.S. unleashed a second straight day of ferocious bombing strikes in Kandahar. CNN Correspondent Kamal Hyder filed a report by way of video phone within the last hour in the southern city. He reports that several loud explosions were heard to the west of the town and possibly also within the city limits. Here's Kamal Hyder a short time ago.

This morning the head of the Taliban, Ula'ma Counsel Mufti Mohamed Ma'soum al-Afghani said in a statement that the people of Afghanistan were under attack by an infidel power and that the Muslims around the world were asked to assist their Muslim brethren. That it was indeed their religious duty. He said in this statement and at the time when Pakistani tribals have massed on the border area of Bajuwar and all saying they were going to come and fight in Afghanistan, still some confusion on that issue because we are told that those people have been asked by the Taliban authorities not to come to Afghanistan for the moment. So some confusion still persisting. In the meantime, Taliban morale seems to be high here, according the Taliban we have spoken to. They say the Americans attacks have not been able to kill a single Taliban leader or a single Taliban commander here. They say that more public lives have been lost than Taliban front line casualties. Kamal Hyder, CNN, Kandahar, Afghanistan.

HEMMER: Once again, I want to remind our viewers, Kamal was in Afghanistan with the permission of the Taliban. We are told there are no restrictions on what he can say, and the only restriction we're told on what he can see and photograph, is that he is not allowed at any military sites. Those are the conditions, apparently, applied to Kamal Hyder reporting there in Southern Afghanistan.
