MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Now, let's change gears, here, a little bit. The crash of American Airlines Flight 587. Investigators want to know whether turbulence from another plane may have played a role in the crash. CNN's Jason Carroll, joining us from the crash site with an update on that and more. Jason?
JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, certainly some significant developments for the NTSB. They have recovered both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder. In fact, just within the past hour, Miles, from Washington, D.C., NTSB officials put on display the boxes that contained both of those items. They recovered the data recorder at the crash site. And the data recorder is able to track some 200 instruments on board that aircraft. It was badly damaged during the crash, and downloading information from it has already proven to be somewhat problematic, but early analysis of the cockpit voice recorder has already given investigators some valuable information in terms of what happened moments before the crash.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GEORGE BLACK, NTSB BOARD MEMBER: A second air frame rattling sound was heard at 121 seconds after the start of the takeoff roll. The co-pilot calls, then, at 125 seconds after the start of the roll for max power. There are several comments suggesting loss of control of the aircraft at 127 seconds after the takeoff roll initiation, and the cockpit voice recording ends at 144 seconds after the start of the takeoff roll.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
CARROLL: And Miles, I'm told that we have some developing news, so I'm going to turn it back over to you for more on that. Miles.
O'BRIEN: Jason, we are sorry to interrupt you. We will check in with you a little bit later because we want to hear the rest of that report.
