LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: From the runway to the roadways, Americans are on the move for this holiday weekend.
We have coverage for you from New York, where Jason Carroll is now, and Los Angeles, where our Charles Feldman is standing by, in the wee hours.
First, let's check in with Jason, in the Big Apple -- Jason.
JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, Leon.
We're hearing that airline travel this holiday season is actually down by about 20 percent, but it's really hard to tell from looking here at LaGuardia Airport, in New York City, where the place is literally packed. People have been lining up all morning long, some waiting as long as two, three hours in order to make their flight.
The airlines are recommending you allow at least two hours to try to board your flight, especially with the new security measures that are in place here and at airports all across the country.
According to AAA, there were 37 million people last year who traveled overall; that is including planes, trains, automobiles, just about everything. This year, they are expecting about 35 million people to travel overall this holiday weekend. Less people than last year, but it's hard to tell from where we are.
I'm going to bring in two guests right now. We've got Terrell (ph). He's headed to Atlanta, Georgia. And this is Gene (ph); he is headed to Florida.
Terrell (ph), what's the wait been like for you so far?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: So far, it's been pretty decent, waiting here in a long line outside. I got all the way up to the thing, and they told us we have to change our tickets over. So now I guess we have to wait on another line.
CARROLL: Terrell (ph), I'm going to interrupt you. It appears we have some developing news.
