UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Caitlin Hess from San Antonio, Texas asks, what other terrorism attacks have devastated the United States?

PETER BERGEN: Before the September 11th attacks, the most important acts of terrorism on American soil included the 1995 attack on the federal building in Oklahoma, City, which killed 168 Americans, destroyed the federal building in Oklahoma, City. That attack was, of course, the work of Timothy McVeigh. The other attack that was very significant was the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, which was the work of a group of Islamic radicals from the Middle East. That attack killed six people, inflicted half a billion dollars of damage on the World Trade Center. That was the first time international terrorists had ever attacked actually on American soil.
