THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: From CNN Center in Atlanta, I'm Martin Savidge. There was little that was remarkable about the arrive of 2002 in Afghanistan. The U.S.-led military campaign's continuing with Marines involved in a mission that's going on right now.
CNN's Bill Hemmer is following the events from Afghanistan and he joins us live -- Bill.
BILL HEMMER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hey, Marty, good evening again from Kandahar.
We are told several hundred Marines involved in this operation. They say they're trying to find, they're trying to find more intelligence matters that relate directly to Taliban and al Qaeda leadership. And among them we're going to talk to Major General Don Shepperd about this mission. It's been done before, done in the past in different parts of Afghanistan and we'll try and gauge just how successful the U.S. military has been in the past.
Also, Marty, a sign and a symbol of unity between the U.S. and Afghanistan went up today here at this airport. We'll show it to you when we come back here in a couple minutes, Marty. See you again later.
SAVIDGE: All right, Bill, thanks very much.
