LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's go now to America's new war.
Our Bill Hemmer is with the U.S. marines in Kandahar. Let's check in with him and get a check of what's going on there this hour -- hello, Bill. Good morning.
BILL HEMMER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hey, Leon, good morning and good evening from Kandahar.
As you can tell, Leon, it's quite dusty right now. There's a Norwegian mine sweeping team apparently operating over behind the detention facility over there and they're kicking up quite a bit of a dust storm for the past 30 minutes here.
Also, Leon, we have been warned about the pockets of resistance in different parts of Afghanistan. Well, overnight and into the early morning hours, a firefight in the central part of Kandahar. We'll let you know how that turned out for four Taliban fighters.
Also today, this afternoon, in fact, an honor for a U.S. marine whop lost his left foot patrolling this area here several weeks ago.
We'll have it all for you, Leon, live in Kandahar when we come back here -- back to you now in Atlanta. And take care. Watch that snow back there, an inch on the ground.
HARRIS: Hey, you've got it.
HEMMER: It's just bad in Atlanta when that happens.
HARRIS: Listen, buddy, believe me, the air here looks about like it does there, except it's snow here.
All right, we'll get back to you in a few minutes.
