JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: All right Anderson, a big morning, of course, for movie stars, movie makers, so what better time than now to present our own "AMERICAN MORNING" official review of Hollywood's finest. Our reviewers are pulling double duty this morning. Joining us "AM's" (UNINTELLIGIBLE) and resident Richard Butler, and from Little Rock, Arkansas a man who has his own marching orders, Gen. Wesley Clark. Gentlemen, it's time for the nominations. Mr. Butler, we begin with you. The nominations for Best Picture.

RICHARD BUTLER, FORMER UNITED NATIONS CHIEF WEAPONS INSPECTOR: Great, I love this. Easy, "Beautiful Mind" or "Moulin Rouge" definitely. "Beautiful Mind" is a fabulous story of a genius with a problem of schizophrenia that in the end, Jack, the power of love. I'm a sucker for a love story.

CAFFERTY: I could tell.

BUTLER: Same with "Moulin Rouge", all right. Wonderful blend, everything from (UNINTELLIGIBLE) to (UNINTELLIGIBLE). Funny, dramatic, great dance scenes, and in the end, a fabulous love story.

CAFFERTY: I like the video they ran on MTV. Gen. Clark, your nominations for Best Picture.

GEN. WELSLEY CLARK, (RET.) CNN MILITARY ANALYST: Oh I like "Beautiful Mind", but I also have to say that "Black Hawk Down" is the best war movie, I think that's ever been made. It's the most ...

CAFFERTY: Why do you say that?

CLARK: Most accurate war movie, it's current. It tells it like it is. It is so relevant, and I think the American people have to appreciate the incredible skill and courage of the men and women in uniform today.

CAFFERTY: All right. What else? Any other pictures you think deserve the Oscar?

CLARK: I'm a sucker for "Lord of the Rings". I just thought it was ...

CAFFERTY: Well a lot of people are.

CLARK: ... a fantastic movie. CAFFERTY: Sure.

CLARK: I know that there's a long tradition, you don't give Best Picture to fantasy movies, but it was a courageous film and it really took some enormous risks with that movie, and I thought it was really well done.

CAFFERTY: All right, let's go back to Mr. Butler now and get his suggestion for the Oscar for Best Actor and or Actress.

BUTLER: Jack, I want to talk both actor and actress.

CAFFERTY: All right.

BUTLER: OK. Russell Crowe should get the Oscar as Best Actor. He got it last year and therefore maybe the politics of it will be such that he won't get it this year. That would be a pity because actually his performance in "Beautiful Mind", I think, exceeds that of ...

CAFFERTY: Of "Gladiator".

BUTLER: ... "Gladiator". Best Actress without a doubt Nicole Kidman. Now am I saying this because I'm an Australian and they're both Australians - absolutely not.

CAFFERTY: No.

BUTLER: Absolutely not. Why? Because art and culture is even more important, I think, than something like patriotism. Nicole does a fabulous job. She's beautiful. She's funny.

CAFFERTY: Yes.

BUTLER: And she sings like an angel.

CAFFERTY: Yes.

(CROSSTALK)

CAFFERTY: I like the video they ran on MTV. General, who is the - who's your nomination for Best Actor?

CLARK: I like Russell Crowe. I like "Beautiful Mind". It's a - he did a fantastic job in it.

CAFFERTY: All right, Best Actress, have you got a pick there?

CLARK: Actually I don't. I missed some of the key movies. But I did go to my son who is a movie write and a ...

(CROSSTALK)

CAFFERTY: He's a screenwriter, isn't he?

CLARK: Absolutely, and he says Melissa Tomei, Best Supporting Actress. She's the one.

CAFFERTY: She won for "My Cousin Vinnie" a few years back and now she's nominated yet again, right, for was is "In the Bedroom"?

CLARK: "In The Bedroom".

BUTLER: That's right.

CAFFERTY: Yes.

CLARK: "In The Bedroom".

CAFFERTY: All right, well I think our panel here on "AMERICAN MORNING" certainly ranks right up there with the Academy Motion Picture arts and sciences members. I thank you both for joining us this morning. Ambassador Richard Butler ...

BUTLER: Thank you.

CAFFERTY: Gen. Wesley Clark, we'll see whether or not your picks come to (UNINTELLIGIBLE) ...

BUTLER: We got a new territory to deal with. This is great.

(CROSSTALK)

CAFFERTY: We may become a four-hour show with you guys.

BUTLER: Let's do it.

CAFFERTY: All right, tell us what you think. You can send your questions and comments by e-mail. Anderson reads them and answers them all. The rest of us pay no attention to that stuff. The address is am@cnn.com -- Paula.

PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Jack, I'm surprised at you. You let the ambassador get away with his Aussie bias this morning.

CAFFERTY: Well he copped to it. He said it has nothing to do with the fact that they're all from Australia. Of course, I don't believe that, but he's an ambassador, so you can't argue with him.

ZAHN: Exercising some real diplomacy here on "A.M." this morning Jack.
