ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Joining us now from L.A. is John Voight, who was just nominated for best supporting actor, his fourth nomination. He joins us now on the phone.
John, thanks very much for being with us this morning. Congratulations. Did you expect to be nominated?
JOHN VOIGHT, ACTOR: You know, Anderson, you never know about these things. A lot of people, your friends and family, of course, are very encouraging and people in the industry are hopeful. And, you know, especially those associated with the film, but you never know. So it's always one of those things where it comes down to the last moment, and you don't know, and some people get the nod, and some people don't, and I was perfectly -- you know, I am trying to prepare myself, anyway, for not hearing my name. But, fortunately I -- I was I was very, very, you know, moved to hear my name.
COOPER: You've been nominated three times in the past. "Run Away Train," 1985. "Coming Home," for which you actually won the Academy Award, and "Midnight Cowboy." Is it different this time around, do you feel different?
VOIGHT: Well, you know, Anderson, it's always the same. It's very exciting. It's something of a childhood dream for every child who is going to get into the acting profession, and it's a great, great honor. So, it's very exciting, and you say to yourself that it is not the most important thing in the world, and it certainly isn't the most important thing in the world, but it certainly does, you know, test your nerves a little bit in the process.
Now, of course, I'm part of five. And I have to say I'm very humble, Anderson, because it could have gone many other ways, and there -- certainly many people, maybe 10 more on the outside of this group, that could have been nominated with us. So we're very fortunate, we five. Now it comes down to this journey toward the Oscar night, and that will have its own stresses too, you know, but I'm very, very glad to be part of this group.
COOPER: Well, we thank you very much for joining us this morning. Congratulations to you and all the other nominees, and we wish you the best.
VOIGHT: Thanks so much, Anderson.
COOPER: All right. Thanks a lot, John Voight.
