JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: The city of New York has everything, including a building called the Toy Building. It's at Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street. And if you're going to hold a toy fair, what better place than in the Toy Building. And there's what's going on in the city this day.

CNN's Jeff Flock is attending and looking at -- looks like Lawrence Welk is in the room -- looking at things kids will be playing with come Christmas morning.

Hello, Jeff.

JEFF FLOCK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: We've got your champagne music makers here right here at the toy fair. I know you'd appreciate that. These are what? "Play Things" Magazine. These are what, space age bubbles?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The bubbles.

FLOCK: Well, they don't break.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, they don't. Well, they'll break eventually. OK?

FLOCK: Got you.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And they bring new meaning to the term I don't want to burst your bubble.

FLOCK: Got you. Not your father's bubble. Now, you're talking about everything old to new, and I have the bubble stuck on me. But we have baseball here. This an old-time game regenerated here.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Old school.

FLOCK: Sort of pitch there. I'm going to see if I can take you downtown again. This is a return to a simpler time.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Got you.

FLOCK: You struck me out! Oh, dear Lord.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No batteries required.

FLOCK: Old to new again. This is kind of cool. I think Jack might like this one.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes. This is an I-Lock (ph) Room Guard by Girl Tech (ph).

(CROSSTALK)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This is for your doorknob, or any other kind of door.

FLOCK: A little girl or something.

And you what? Put your eye in there?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And program it. You blink it according to an eye color, gives you different colors.

FLOCK: If somebody else -- because that's not my room -- if somebody else goes in there, that sets off the alarm.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Absolutely right.

FLOCK: And it opens up if it's really the right person.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Right. If it's you, exactly.

FLOCK: Kind of cool.

Again, that's the newest. Back to the oldest, most classic again. This is sort of one of my favorites.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Lionel Train.

FLOCK: Steam engine.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Steam engine. Just like old times.

FLOCK: Very neat.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The one that was under the Christmas toys.

FLOCK: My mother sold that. I will never forgive her for that.

And back to the theme that we're talking about last hour, and this is 9-11 has had an impact.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, it has.

FLOCK: What do we got here? This is a fire rescue, police that sort of thing?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, it's a fire rescue by Peg Parago (ph?), and it's great. It has all kinds of sounds. It goes about 2 1/2 miles. For kids from 3 to 6.

FLOCK: And it will actually drive away. Asked me not to ride it, because it's probably not built for... UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And it's made in America. I think everybody will like to hear that.

FLOCK: That's right, Fort Wayne, Indiana, I'm told.

And last, before we get away, I want to do this -- I think probably Jack remembers is it Abbey Hoffman with a steal this book. We have eat this book.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You can actually eat pages from the book.

FLOCK: Write yourself a note. If you want to destroy the evidence, you simply wrap it up.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Right. And eat it. Pass notes in class, and then eat them.

FLOCK: And it sort of takes like a communion wafer, just FYI.

CAFFERTY: There were rumors that were offices in the Enron building where they were doing that.

FLOCK: We can shred or we can eat, whatever.

CAFFERTY: Don't sweat the small stuff.

FLOCK: Wait until they get this in Washington.

CAFFERTY: Jeff? Can you still buy the little pills?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hours of creative play here.

FLOCK: Little pills, what was that again?

(CROSSTALK)

FLOCK: You're tough.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Comes with a handle and you can attach that...

CAFFERTY: Take that away from her and tell her to be quiet. Enough sales already. That's good. Well...

FLOCK: I'm done, Jack, I don't know about you.

CAFFERTY: We're going to the toy store there, the toy fair. What I was going to ask, about the Lionel trains, I used to remember this. You had the little pills that you put in the engine to make the smoke come out. Yes, you used to have to get the little white pills. I remember them.

OK, all aboard as we drive this thing into the nearest ditch.
