PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Jack's out here with "The Cafferty File". What's on your mind this morning?

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: I've got two or three little things. The millions of readers of "Dear Abby" will find these interesting or perhaps not - we hope you do. The current "Dear Abby" columnist, Jeanne Phillips, gave one of her readers some advice that he probably didn't want - go to jail, get help. The advice columnist, actually the daughter of the original Abigail Van Buren, said she agonized for days, was unable to sleep and in the end she called police and turned in a man who wrote to her seeking her advice about how to deal with his sexual fantasies about a young girl.

(BEGIN VIDEOCLIP)

JEANNE PHILLIPS, COLUMNIST: He talked about that the child trusted him and that made me worry. The child didn't know that she was in danger, and the child's mother didn't know.

(END VIDEOCLIP)

CAFFERTY: The authorities arrested the man and charged him with possessing child pornography.

All right, another item, Winona Ryder in a different and unplanned on-screen role. This is a surveillance video taken of the "Girl Interrupted" star by close circuit cameras inside a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills last December. You may have heard Ryder's charged with shoplifting $4,800 worth of clothing, accessories and other stuff. This girl can shop, her lawyers say the tape proves she's innocent because she's not seen cutting off any of the security tags on the items. The prosecutors aren't buying it. They say they're to go ahead and try the case in court.

Two other quick things. Chewing gum apparently contrary - remember all the schoolteachers never let you chew gum in school?

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Sure.

CAFFERTY: They've done a study in England. Chewing gum has a positive effect on cognizant tasks such as thinking and memory.

COOPER: Really?

CAFFERTY: So you know ...

COOPER: I should start chewing some gum ...

CAFFERTY: ... break out the double bubble kids and tell the teacher you read it here. And from "The Daily News" editorial page under one room, no view. From the wires in Kabul, Afghanistan Reuters reports property prices in Afghanistan soaring as exiles return home after years away, and then they ask what is the going price for a cave?

That's it.

COOPER: That hits close to home because I'm looking for an apartment in New York now. So maybe I should look in Kabul.

CAFFERTY: Yes, it's one room, no view, just like here in Manhattan.
