PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: It could be the celebrity wedding of the year: Liza Minelli and producer David Gest are tying the knot this weekend, and the guest list is a who's who from the entertainment world. It is his first marriage, her fourth. Still, the bride will wear white. And as renowned gossip columnist Cindy Adams might say, "Only in New York." Adams, it turns out, is one of Liza's bridesmaids.

And Anderson Cooper talked with her about the weekend nuptials.

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: So the cast of characters involved in this wedding is quite interesting to say the least. Elizabeth Taylor is the made of honor. Michael Jackson the best man.

CINDY ADAMS, GOSSIP COLUMNIST: Also a maid of honor.

COOPER: Who else is involved?

ADAMS: Listen, I don't understand the hype on this thing. There hasn't been this much excitement for this one thing, and they've had parties all week, and people from Judy Garland's era, like her mother, Liza Minelli's mother, Patricia Neale (ph), and somebody who plays with Andy Hardy, the early pictures with Mickey Rooney. It was like going to the commissary at "18th Century Fox." People you've never seen in 40 years.

COOPER: Now the actual wedding is tomorrow. What happens today?

ADAMS: Today, there is the rehearsal, there is the bridesmaid rehearsal. We were asked to be there at 5:40 this afternoon, and we have to line up, and we're all to wear black, which doesn't presage very good for the future, you know, all the bridesmaid are wearing black.

COOPER: But the bride is wearing white.

ADAMS: The bride is wearing white, she told me, long, and it's by Bob Mackie, personally made. I'm not to say anything, God knows they could kill, they could beat me, but this is not exactly even your third marriage. You're not supposed to wear white. That's virginal. And she said, I know a lot of non-virgins whose wear white.

COOPER: Who is David Gest? ADAMS: Good question, even if you know him, you want to know who is David Gest. What is David Gest? David Gest is sort of an entrepreneur and sort of a promoter, and he does lots of things and he has concerts. But mostly, he started by bringing the people from the crypt, from the old days, you know, people who are grateful for invitations, and that's how he really started. At the party last night, you know, it was like a night of 1,000 facelifts, every person from 50 years ago.

COOPER: But he seems no stranger to Botox himself there.

ADAMS: That's good. If you have a funny line, you'll give it to me, honey. I'm the guest.

COOPER: You know, this wedding is -- you mentioned he's sort of a promoter, sort of an entrepreneur. This wedding is being produced like a TV show.

ADAMS: Oh, of course it is.

COOPER: They're selling the video rights. They're selling the photo rights to British magazines. Are they going to make money off of it?

ADAMS: Oh, well, of course. Is the pope Catholic?

I have a feeling that since this only Friday, and we still have time to the wedding, if they had bigger celebrity than me, if they could get one, I'd be bounced as a bridesmaid, because there's no VIP unturned, you know. If they could get Mae West from the grave, they'd pick her up and stuff her and sit her in the third row.

COOPER: Because they are negotiating, I understand "Okay" magazine is supposed to have...

ADAMS: "Okay" magazine, "Hello" magazine, "People" magazine, "Star" magazine, TV rights to CNN, HBO. You name the...

COOPER: I don't think CNN is buying any TV rights.

ADAMS: Whatever. It doesn't matter what the initial. It's out there. It's out there. Everything is for grabs.

COOPER: What was your gift to the bride, besides your presence at her wedding?

ADAMS: That should be sufficient thank you. It took you a little while to say that. What I just went for is $12, because she said borrowed and blue, and I said, well, what are you wearing that's blue, and she said I will wear a blue garter, and you are going to give it to me, and I said, but I don't have one. She said, well, dear, go get it. So I got it at Victoria's Secret. I don't know...

COOPER: Did you get it for free?

ADAMS: Hello, no, I paid $12 for it. Price is no object for my friends.

COOPER: Thank for being with us. Enjoy the wedding.

ADAMS: Thank you.
