ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: If you know Ozzy Osbourne, like most people know him the image is strictly hard rock, a heavy metal man, fronting for the band Black Sabbath. But the real Oz, it turns out, may be the guy you have been seeing lately on TV, fronting for another group, his family. MTV's new family sitcom "The Osbournes" is already a smash hit. Take a look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
OZZY OSBOURNE: When I'm in Afghanistan (UNINTELLIGIBLE). (EXPLETIVE DELETED). I'm stuck on the Weather Channel.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
COOPER: Joining us now is the cast of "The Osbournes," if you will, the Osbournes themselves, Ozzy, his wife, Sharon, and their daughter, Kelly, and son, Jack.
Thanks for being with us.
SHARON OSBOURNE: Good morning.
COOPER: Good morning.
Now, Sharon, it was your idea. You've been managing husband's career for quite a while now. I understand you're the one who actually pitched MTV this idea?
S. OSBOURNE: Yes.
COOPER: Do you have any trepidation about allowing cameras into your home for such a long period of time?
S. OSBOURNE: I don't think we knew what we were getting ourselves into. We discussed it as a family, and we said, yes, sure. And initially, it was only meant to be three weeks, and it just took on a life of its own, and three weeks turned into five months.
COOPER: Ozzy, you have cameras in your home five months, six days a week. I think they can go everywhere in your home but the bedroom and the master bedroom.
OZZY OSBOURNE: It's kind of like when you have a pebble rolling down the side of the mountain, it picks up more pebbles, and then an avalanche. I find that kind of a vibe (ph), you know.
COOPER: Was there a moment when you said to yourself, we have made a terrible mistake?
O. OSBOURNE: No. No. I had my camera moments when I would go, not now, and I was in particularly grumpy mood. When you're not in your bedroom door, they're there with the lights. Some mornings I'm in my jockey shorts and I'm thinking, and scratching, I jump because I see these guys there. But all and all, it was all right, you know. It did toward the end get a bit tiresome.
COOPER: Five months is a long, long time.
Do you guys like the way you were portrayed, Jackie and Kelly?
KELLY OSBOURNE: Well, in any way they portray you, people are going to think what they want to think of you, and invent things in your head as to how they think you are. There's no -- I don't really -- it doesn't bother me.
COOPER: Jack?
JACKIE OSBOURNE: I'm not bothered.
COOPER: Yes?
Have you gotten a lot of feedback from friends? You guys are really kind of stars in this. Everybody is talking about you guys, and I saw the original MTV Cribs that you guys were on, and you were great.
K. OSBOURNE: The thing that have changed with our friends, but with more our acquaintances it's changed, like everyone wants to talk to us now, and it's annoying.
It's kind of like, you no, go away, but you don't what to be rude.
Sharon, the original MTV Cribs on which this sort of, I get the idea, started, Ozzy wasn't participating. He was in a bad mood is my understanding. Don't know if this was true.
S. OSBOURNE: Actually, that was the last week we had done. We had done two before that, and it was the first one that we done that was hugely popular, and it was like the top five most requested.
O. OSBOURNE: I see the show. I don't see anything funny about it. It's just me with my family, at home. And I don't -- people go, oh, that's so funny, Ozzy, when you run up the stairs and the dog craps on my carpet, you know. It's normal for me. So you know, you think that's funny, you know? Or we -- we didn't have it to go at this time. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) We just went what is normal.
COOPER: Kelly and Jack, when you're young, it's typical to rebel and stuff, but how do you rebel when father is like the epitome of the rebel of rock music? What do you do to rebel? K. OSBOURNE: We don't.
J. OSBOURNE: See, we've had no reason to rebel. Most kids rebel because there parents would let them stay out yet.
K. OSBOURNE: We have enough freedom we can do whatever -- you know, whatever we want. We make our own decisions.
S. OSBOURNE: Alternative parenting.
J. OSBOURNE: Exactly.
K. OSBOURNE: Kids are bold to prove a point to their parents, and I don't think we really have anything to prove.
COOPER: The thing I love about the show, beside the fact I do think it is funny. I know, Ozzy, you don't understand that. But it is a very different look at a family. And you do see how, though, it's a different family; it's just a normal family. And that's sort of I think the overall message, if there is one, that there are many different kinds of families. We have a little bit of clip we will show from tonight's episode, which I'm very exciting about, because I think, Kelly, this is where you get a tattoo. So we are going to show a little bit of that.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
K. OSBOURNE: If I show you, you can't kill me.
O. OSBOURNE: Show me what. You got a tattoo?
OSBOURNE: You broke your mom's hat.
K. OSBOURNE: Yes, but you're not going to say anything.
O. OSBOURNE: I have to.
K. OSBOURNE: Dad, you promised.
O. OSBOURNE: Kelly has something to tell you.
Come on.
K. OSBOURNE: Hello. I got a tattoo.
S. OSBOURNE: You are joking.
What did you get?
K. OSBOURNE: It's really tiny.
S. OSBOURNE: What is it?
K. OSBOURNE: A tiny little heart.
S. OSBOURNE: Where? K. OSBOURNE: On my hip.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
COOPER: What happened? Were you upset?
S. OSBOURNE: Very upset. I still am.
K. OSBOURNE: I don't get it. I really don't get it. Because it's so tiny; it's not as if it's a great big giant ass on my arm. I mean, it's there. You can't see it. It's tiny.
COOPER: A big giant ass on your arm would not be good.
K. OSBOURNE: I know. I don't get it why she's so unhappy. It's not like something that's so visible and ugly. I mean, you never see it.
O. OSBOURNE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE). When you have one, you have two. When you have two, you have three.
COOPER: All right, we've got to leave it there. I really appreciate you guys coming in. The show is my favorite show. I love watching it. It's on tonight, and thanks to the Osbournes very much for coming in.
The only family in the neighborhood who has a devil on their door. Thanks very much for coming in you guys. Appreciate it.
