DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: You bachelors out there know it can be a tough market. What's a single guy to do?
Here is a guy who is 57, he was divorced 13 years ago, and he's ready for a new wife, and he does not want to pay for a dating service. Danny Talley found the answer in the form of a sign. Danny couldn't afford billboard, so he decided to settle on an old formica table turned into sign on his front line. And Danny Talley joining us now from outside his home in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Danny, good morning.
DANNY TALLEY, HUSBAND ASPIRANT: Good morning, Daryn.
KAGAN: I think women of America might fall in love with you when they find out what you have been doing, spending the last few years, since you got your divorce. You moved in with your mother, and basically you have been taking care of her.
TALLEY: Yes, I just -- first her eyesight started bothering her. As the year progressed, she's developed Alzheimer's, and made me promise not to put her in a nursing home, so I took care of her until she passed away.
KAGAN: And now that she has passed away, there's an empty hole in your heart, and you're ready to move on past the divorce from so many years ago, and you're looking for the lady. But have you thought of, like, just going to a singles bar or something like that?
TALLEY: Well, I went to a bar, but I didn't have the nerve to talk to anybody.
KAGAN: You don't have the nerve to talk to somebody, but you have the nerve to stick a sign in your front yard like that?
TALLEY: Well, it's a little different the first time you go up to somebody in their face, and also, you know, bars are really not good places to meet people.
KAGAN: You're right there. You want quality a lady. I understand you got idea from a lady in Texas who took out a billboard, but she wasn't exactly interested in you, unfortunately.
TALLEY: Well, no, I went to her Web site, and she was a little out of my class.
KAGAN: Come on. Danny, give yourself a break.
TALLEY: I didn't really want to go to Texas.
KAGAN: Oh, she was stuck in Texas; you're in North Carolina.
TALLEY: Well, I think she would have -- she had a lot of more interest in Texas than she would have in North Carolina, so...
KAGAN: What kind of response...
TALLEY: ... I just didn't pursue that.
KAGAN: What kind of response have you gotten so far from the sign in your front yard?
TALLEY: Well, I don't know if I've gotten any from the sign. I think when the local paper put in Wednesday edition that's when the phone started ringing.
KAGAN: Any prospects?
TALLEY: Oh, yes. I'm going through a list of numbers and names and trying to talk to each one of them briefly, and maybe, as we talk they find something about me not to like.
KAGAN: What's there not to like, Danny? Be forthcoming, tell us what your worst habit is?
TALLEY: Well, I smoke cigarettes.
KAGAN: That's nod good, I got to tell you.
TALLEY: Some people don't like it. I know that, yes. That's something I'd like to quit.
KAGAN: But other than, of course, the heartwarming story of how you took care of your mom, what's your best at tribute, Danny?
TALLEY: Well, I'm faithful. I was always faithful to my first wife. Can't say that about her.
KAGAN: A different story.
TALLEY: Yes.
KAGAN: Tell us quickly.
TALLEY: I'm honest. I'm honest.
KAGAN: What are you looking for in a woman, Danny?
TALLEY: Well, I'm looking for honesty, too, and someone who is caring, someone who is willing to share different aspects of life, go out and do things with me, keep me company. KAGAN: Tell us the phone number you want people to call. What should the special lady call? Call Danny at what number?
TALLEY: Well, the number is -- I'd rather not say it. Come on.
KAGAN: You know, what...
TALLEY: I'll give it, but if I give it, what I'm going to say is, it's long distance; it's going to be maybe down the road, because I got enough local ladies.
KAGAN: OK. Let's leave it at that then. Plenty of good ladies in North Carolina. We'll wish you well, and how about we check in and see how that dating is going and what the update is on the sign?
TALLEY: Well, that would be fine.
KAGAN: All right. Danny Talley in Gastonia, North Carolina. I'm feeling the love, Danny. I know that special lady is out there. She's close to grabbing your heart.
TALLEY: Thank you.
