JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: What did you say? Somebody in the control room said something about Richard Quest.
BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Yes, we think we are aligning the satellites right now.
CAFFERTY: OK.
HEMMER: And slowly but surely...
(CROSSTALK)
CAFFERTY: Are we going to do it now, or are you going to take a break first? David (ph)?
DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We are going to do it right now, I think.
CAFFERTY: Oh, there is Richard.
KAGAN: There he is.
CAFFERTY: Hey, Richard, did you hear the latest? England lost.
(LAUGHTER)
RICHARD QUEST CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, Jack.
Good morning, Jack and Paula. We are here at the Sports Cafe here in London, where the USA are doing their best, but you may be in the same boat before the day is over.
Now, here with us are some Americans -- hello. Hey, hey.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi.
QUEST: Can the USA win today?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Absolutely!
QUEST: Why are you so confident?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Germany hasn't played all that well. I think the U.S. is on a roll. We've got the momentum. We've got all of the English behind us now. How can we lose?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We've got Eddie Lewis.
QUEST: So the Americans think they can win. Now, gentlemen, you are from Germany.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.
QUEST: Who is going to win this?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I guess Germany. I'm sorry to say that, but yes. The USA is strong though, I must say, but I hope they are not strong enough to make it.
QUEST: Right. So you are rooting for the Germans. You are rooting for the Americans.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Team USA, come on! Yes!
QUEST: Well, as you can see, Jack, it doesn't take much to get the USA to start chanting "Team USA." There are still one or two Englishmen lying somewhere over there in a drunken, comatose stupor after this morning's fiasco. And I suspect they will be joined by either our American fans or our German fans before the day is over.
Now, we are 24 minutes into the first half. The score is nil- nil. But who is playing better at the moment, Germany or the USA?
CROWD: USA! Yes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No I'm sorry. Germany, Germany, Germany.
QUEST: He is a very brave man, Jack. He is on his own amongst these Americans, a bit like me.
CAFFERTY: Now, this would be a huge upset. I mean, the American team was not expected to get as far as it did, and they are certainly big underdogs to the Germans this morning, who are three-time World Cup winners. But, I mean, what do you suppose the reaction might be if the Americans somehow could pull out a victory here? I mean, that would be like the story of the century, wouldn't it?
QUEST: Oh, absolutely. If the Americans go through to the semifinals, then it was rather like Senegal beating France in the first game. So, let's test the waters very briefly. If the Americans win today, will that be a big achievement for you?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Absolutely.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Now, the big achievement would be beating South Korea or Spain in the semis. That's the big achievement.
QUEST: Can...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: ... to the finals.
QUEST: Can Team USA go all the way to the finals?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's been an unexpected World Cup. Expect the unexpected. Absolutely.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shock the world!
QUEST: Well, it's after lunch, which you can tell here. Not much work is being done in London. In fact, pretty much around the globe, not a lot of work is being done at the moment, Jack, except for the likes of you and me.
CAFFERTY: Yes. Well, you know, we've got to pay the rent. By the way, the breakfast you bought me a couple of days ago at the Tic Toc Diner (ph), excellent. The bill is on the way, and it's large.
QUEST: Jack, the breakfast that I had that morning from Franks for Frank (ph) is still repeating on me.
CAFFERTY: All right. Richard, we'll check in with you a bit later, and we've got the game on actually on a monitor here in the studio.
HEMMER: Hey, can we keep him for a minute?
CAFFERTY: All right. Yes.
HEMMER: Hey, Richard, explain the fact that behind you in that pub, do you see what's on the wall up there?
CAFFERTY: I didn't notice, no.
HEMMER: Those are American football helmets.
CAFFERTY: Well, they are!
QUEST: American football helmets...
CAFFERTY: You have better eyes than I do, Bill.
QUEST: ... and there they are, but they are not being used today, Jack. It's all soccer balls, and at the end of the day, we are 26 minutes in, nil-nil. It's all to play for.
HEMMER: And the suds are already flowing. What is it, 1:00 in the afternoon there, Richard? You guys waste no time, do you?
QUEST: Absolutely not. But the key point, Jack, come back to us and let's see just how cheerful these people are at full time (ph).
CAFFERTY: Sports bars are the same the world over.
HEMMER: Yes, that's right.
CAFFERTY: All right. Thanks, Richard -- we'll talk to you later.
