JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: You might want to check your wallet after watching this next report. Whether you spend money, invest money, or simply give it away, all of us have our own way of arranging our cash.

And in this report, CNN's Jeanne Moos goes through the streets and picks a pocket or two.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): If the stock market has you longing for the comfort of cash, reach into your pocket.

(on camera): Cough it up.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Cough it up.

MOOS (voice-over): Dig into your purse.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I just shove it in.

MOOS: Maybe your legal tender could use some tender loving care.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: When I see people taking money out of their pocket and their money's all crumpled up, I go berserk.

MOOS: This from a guy wearing a T-shirt that says "bite me." We're talking money order, the order in which you keep your money.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Faced all one way -- high numbers in the center, low denominations on the outside.

MOOS (on camera): And if one of these were faced down, this would bother you?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, it would.

MOOS (voice-over): There's a name for such behavior: facing.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All the heads have to face the same way.

MOOS (on camera): And why is that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Because it's the way it is. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's called being anal compulsive.

MOOS (voice-over): There was a lot of that here at the World's Fair of Money, where collectors and dealers came together.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I'm not in order now, and it makes me crazy, because I'm hurrying.

MOOS: Most men here were into burying their big bills.

(on camera): You put your singles on the outside?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, you should for security purposes.

MOOS (voice-over): This guy keeps only small bills in his wallet.

(on camera): Oh, you've got the 50s hidden on you? So where are the 50s.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

MOOS: So where are the 50s?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm not telling you.

MOOS: So there are big bills somewhere on you?

(voice-over): There's a guy who knows how to keep things under his hat.

The director of the U.S. mint keeps her $20's separate from her smaller bills. Contrast that with this official from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I just dump them in wherever they land. It works for me.

MOOS: And what does such disorganization say?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it says I don't care about my money.

MOOS: She does.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don't like it wrinkled.

MOOS (on camera): Yes, but you know, when the corner gets bent, do you...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I straighten it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, sure, you have to straighten that out.

MOOS (voice-over): As for CNN's very own money meister...

ANNOUNCER: This is "LOU DOBBS MONEYLINE."

MOOS: ... he doesn't even carry his money in a wallet.

LOU DOBBS, ANCHOR: No, just money and cards.

MOOS (on camera): You're Lou Dobbs, you're "MONEYLINE."

DOBBS: And there's some money.

MOOS (voice-over): Lou's taking after the mobsters in Donnie Brasco.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

AL PACINO, ACTOR: What are you doing, a wise guy don't carry money in a wallet, a wise guy carries money in a roll, like this, beana (ph) on the outside.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MOOS: That's a $100 note. Though this kid hides his big bills, he says girls flaunt them.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think girls just -- they want to look rich on purpose because, I guess, they are -- no offense -- they want to buy things that are like diamonds and all that.

MOOS: He's seen too many movies.

A girl's best friend could even be money with printing errors.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We are looking at the front of a $5 bill that in fact is mated with the back of a $10 bill. You wouldn't know where to put that in your wallet. Probably don't want to put that anyhow, because has a value of value $18,000.

MOOS: Nothing petty about this cash.

Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.
