BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: First of all, let's get to President Bush. We just mentioned a short time ago off to California, spending the day raising money essentially.
Our White House correspondent Suzanne Malveaux, more on that now in D.C.

Suzanne, good morning.

SUZANNE MALVEAUX, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Bill.

President Bush is taking his domestic agenda on the road, but not everybody is happy with what they're hearing. It was just yesterday that several hundred protesters gathered in Portland, Oregon outside a hotel where President Bush was attending a Republican fund-raiser. Most of them protesting the forest protection initiative that he announced earlier in the day. Others protesting the administration's policy in Iraq.

The situation became intense when riot police ordered protesters to move on, and then sprayed pepper spray into the crowd.

Five protesters were arrested. It should be noted that there were also Bush supporters, dozens of them, that were lined up along the President's route. Now later today, the president will be traveling to Stockholm, California. That's where he'll raising money for the embattled gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon. It was in July that Simon's company was fined $80 million for fraudulent business practices. The president says that he has been assured by the candidate that he's innocent and that will be proven in appeals -- Bill.

HEMMER: Suzanne, thank you. Suzanne Malveaux on the front lawn this morning.
