BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: I want to get to Indiana right now, the story that we talked about so much on Friday. Madelyne Gorman Toogood scheduled for arraignment today in South Bend, charged with felony battery to a child, her own child, when she was caught on tape apparently berating her 4-year-old daughter.
Gary Tuchman had the chance to speak with Gorman Toogood over the weekend and he's live with us in Indian this morning -- Gary, good morning to you.

GARY TUCHMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Bill, good morning to you.

Last night we entered the world that Madelyne Toogood has created for herself and it's not a very pleasant place to be. When we met with her we were on the first floor of a hotel, on the balcony on the second floor. Several people were looking over and one of them yelled, "You're a monster!"

The 25-year-old will be arraigned about two and a half hours from now. But even before she steps into a courtroom, this woman who was caught on video is admitting she committed a crime.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

MADELYNE TOOGOOD, ACCUSED OF ABUSE: There was 500 spots, that was the only spot in the whole thing. But maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Maybe, you know, maybe -- it's ruined my life. Maybe it'll save some other child, some other mother from doing it to theirs. You know, it's, like they said, I'm a monster to everybody. And so hopefully, hopefully somebody will be educated enough to know don't raise your hand to your child. Don't do it. It's not worth it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TUCHMAN: Four-year-old Martha is now in foster care. She will remain there for the time being. Her medical condition is said to be good, although more medical information will be released later today -- Bill, back to you.

HEMMER: Gary, how much of a flight risk is there? How much has that been given consideration?

TUCHMAN: Well, the prosecutors I've been talking to are not very concerned about that, despite the fact that the family that Madelyne Toogood is part of does not live here. They travel around the country. They've lived in many states. As a matter of fact, Madelyne's told me she's lived in four, she's been to 48 states in the United States. But they are not concerned about her leaving because her child is here in foster care.

HEMMER: Thank you, Gary.

Gary Tuchman in South Bend.

We're going to talk with Madelyne Gorman Toogood live and her attorney next hour here on AMERICAN MORNING.
