JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Remember last year, the Emmys very subdued because of the events that happened on September 11th. This year, though, all bets were off and the stars got a chance to shine a little bit. A lot of the winners clearly in high spirits after the show.
We want to show you what it was like through you eyes of KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin who was right in the middle of it all.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SAM RUBIN, KTLA ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER: Martin sheen is sneaking in. Don't get shy.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Get another glass of water, please, mark? I'm hungry. A little sandwich would be nice.

MARTIN SHEEN, ACTOR: Hello. Sorry I'm late.

RUBIN: Richard, when they said "the west wing" what did you think?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I thought I got to get up.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And the Emmy goes to "The West Wing."

ANNOUNCER: This is the third consecutive year that "The West Wing" has won an Emmy for outstanding drama series.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I was thrilled. I wanted two more prizes that evening. I wanted Martin to win, and I wanted my president to win, and I wanted the best drama, because the best drama celebrates the writing that is really is that we start with. You now, we're served such incredible writing every week, and also that represents all of us.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This is great. I mean, you know, it's part of all the stuff that we do. We do press, and I know you, we've talked before and all of the rest of it, but it is an amazing thing to be in a situation like this when you're honored twice. So the environment is familiar, but the circumstance is new. So it's kind of wonderful. Tomorrow, I go back to the ashes you know, and Cinderella.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And the Emmy goes to Michael Chiklis.

MICHAEL CHIKLIS, ACTOR: I can only describe this as a perfect year. Perfect. And this is the charity.

JAY LENO, ENTERTAINER: And the winner is "Friends."

MATTHEW PERRY, ACTOR: So good. It's so great, you know. It's kind of surreal. We've been -- this show has had an interesting run at the Emmys. We've been nominated, I think, six times, not nominated one time. One year, we got nominated and then they said they had made a mistake and we weren't nominated. And now, this year, that the show has won, and we're so proud of Jenny who won, too, and I'm kind of proud of you for having your own room in this place.

RUBIN: What do you think about this?

PERRY: Not bad.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I have to tell you, I've gotten so used to being the underdog on the show and in life that this is just -- it's very extraordinary. You know, it sounds trite. Anything you say is going to sound cliche. But I think what happens to you, it's so overwhelming. The wife, God love her, with three wine kahluas walking around going, you said I could meet the commish, why can't I meet the commish?

RUBIN: Peter Boyle outside says tonight will be a great night for us, it will be great, except if Brad wins.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, he's been saying that for a few months. He means it.
