PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: And our reporter Michael Okwu is on the scene as we await that news conference.
Michael, good morning.

What have we learned?

MICHAEL OKWU, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, good morning to you, Paula.

If this in fact is the work of the sniper, then the death toll would officially stand at 11. Officials, clearly, investigators working feverishly to try to get to the bottom of this. I want to stand aside, Paula, because I want to show you live pictures of the scene. They've been here since about 9:15 of last night.

You can see that there are school buses that have arrived on the scene. We believe that what they are carrying are recruits who have come in to help in the investigation. This is akin to what happened in Montgomery County just last week after 13-year-old was shot. They brought in recruits to basically go down on hands and knees to try to find as much physical evidence as possible, in a case that continues to puzzle them.

Now, the victim last night, as you mentioned, a woman shot with one single fatal round at about 9:15 in the parking lot of the Home Depot here in falls Church, Virginia. Her husband at her side. Authorities not saying -- saying basically that it's just too early to connect this particular shooting with the shootings that started happening on October 2nd.

But it does appear to fit the sniper's MO. This is a heavily traversed commercial corridor with easy access in and out of the area. This is something that the sniper has done in the past.

We're waiting at this point to find out about a 9:00 briefing that the local authorities were going to have here, hoping they would give us more details on perhaps ballistics evidence. At the very least, perhaps we'll get a little bit more details of who this particular victim was.

Again, a harrowing, terrible shooting last night. A victim shot at 9:15 here in falls church with her husband just by her side -- Paula.

ZAHN: It's heartbreaking to hear this stuff. We're going to come back to you in a couple moments when that news conference gets under way.

Michael Okwu, thanks for that report.
