Witnesses Can't Agree on What Sniper Looks Like

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Patty Davis back with us again this morning. Good to see you again, Patty.
Good morning. Start with some good news this hour.
PATTY DAVIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Some good news, the 13-year-old who was gunned down in Bowie, Maryland last week headed into middle school has now been upgraded to serious condition. But as you were saying, still no composite sketch of a suspect. Police have nothing so far. Witnesses just can't seem to agree.
Bill, they do still have individuals under surveillance, though, looking at people, although they continue to say these are not suspects.
HEMMER: What about tag numbers? Nothing given out. We know at least a partial number was recorded by some of those witnesses.
DAVIS: Right, partial tags. We know it's a Maryland tag, according to sources. Reports are, though, this has been a dead end. The partial tag went nowhere. They're asking the public, be aware, watch out for white vans. In fact, I was driving along in Maryland on a busy road, a white van came by me with a roof rack. I turned around. I thought it had a light that was out in the back, and that's one of the characteristics of the van that witnesses saw. I turned around and followed it, got a license plate. I pulled up to the side. There were two olive-skinned men inside. I called the 888 number yesterday, and police told me, we don't want your information, because this is a Dodge Ram.
HEMMER: Really? So once you gave them the identity, they're that convinced they're looking for an Astro or Econoline.
DAVIS: I was surprised, too.
HEMMER: Quickly here, the distance that the sniper killed Linda Franklin on Monday night.
DAVIS: Thirty yards right now.
HEMMER: You have been in the parking lot, so have I. That's just halfway between essentially the middle of the parking lot and where it stops.
DAVIS: Inside the parking garage. Easy getaway. Right on the edge, where they could right out, go out the entrance, out onto the busy road and getaway. HEMMER: And a different tactic, as opposed to what we have been told anyway in the past, much, much closer.
