LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Halloween right around the corner.
ANDY SERWER, "FORTUNE" MAGAZINE: Listen, people buying candy like crazy. I got mine a couple weeks ago. I took my kids, which is a huge mistake. I bought 20 or 30 bags. That gets to the point of this story. Candy companies are constantly trying to roll out new varieties, new flavors, 890 new products by candy companies so far this year. When it comes to Halloween, grown-ups like to buy the old reliables. The old favorite do best.
HARRIS: Really?
SERWER: So here's what you got, the top Halloween candies by market share. Snickers is an amazing product, Leon, because it has been the most popular candy bar in the United States, decade after decade after decade. All the other ones, we know those so well, Reese's peanut cups, Milky Ways, M&M's, Kit Kats, and the reason they say that these do so well, Leon, is because grown-ups like to eat the leftovers. You don't know anything about that, do you?
HARRIS: Not at all. Listen, I don't. My wife does. She buys so much extra junk. So when it's over with, there's no choice but to eat it.
SERWER: You got to eat it. That's right. Average family buys three to five bags. The new thing this year, these mixes. They've got, let me read you about this, Nestle's Classic Scream, which has the Nestle's Crunch, the Butter Finger and the Baby Ruth bars all mixed up into one bag. That's the latest wrinkle. But again, those are traditional names.
HARRIS: Good deal. Makes sense to me, actually.
SERWER: I know. I'm going to be eating some tonight, before Halloween.
HARRIS: Doesn't surprise me.
SERWER: Yes.
