PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Tis the season to be jolly in New York City. They say you should set your sights on a big target, and Target stores are making their way to New York by way of the Hudson, Hudson River that would be. Andy Serwer is standing by on the scene.
Where are you, Andy, minding your business this morning?
ANDY SERWER, "FORTUNE" MAGAZINE: I'm the king of the retailing world! I'm right here!
Listen, Paula, I'm on the Target shopping ship. The giant retailer, Target, has sent a ship to the west side of Manhattan, right here in Hudson river, and we'll be opening it up for business here at noon today. The reason Target has bought a ship here, is because we in Manhattan do not have any Target stores, unlike the rest of the country, where there are over 1,100 Targets in 47 states. We are not lucky enough to have one.
I'm wearing this foul-weather gear. A lot of people have been anticipating kind of a nasty holiday shopping season. But now with those new retail sales figures in October, things are looking up a little bit. Santa is nodding his head in agreement. Could be the things could be picking up, maybe sales up about 4 percent. The one problem this year, though, Paula, is that there are actually six less shopping days this year, six less days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So that could put a crimp in things.
Later in the show, we will go inside the ship and see all the items they have for sale, about 90 items for sale, and they expect big lines later this afternoon.
