CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: OK. We're ready for our quiz now.
ANDY SERWER, EDITOR AT LARGE, "FORTUNE": All right. We are ready for our Christmas quiz this morning.
COSTELLO: Christmas quiz.
SERWER: Christmas quiz, and the toothless ones would say. Anyway, the number of pictures taken -- average number of pictures taken with a Santa at a mall in the Christmas season. Any guesses on that?
(CROSSTALK)
SERWER: Each Santa at a mall.
COSTELLO: Each Santa at a mall. How many Santas are working, though?
BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: I'd say... 1,000.
SERWER: No.
HEMMER: No, it has got to be more than that -- 10,000.
SERWER: Yes, 11,000. He pulled that one out of his hat. This is not quiz show, folks, by the way. He was not given the answer there.
COSTELLO: That was good.
SERWER: You figure 30 an hour, ten hours a day, 300, 30 days, I got 9,000 that way, so that's not bad. OK.
Average number of catalogs the American family receives during the holiday season?
HEMMER: Fifty.
SERWER: You're scary.
COSTELLO: He got it right again? I didn't even guess.
SERWER: I got to get her a chance -- it is exactly 50.
HEMMER: Really?
SERWER: That's pretty scary. Ten billion catalogs...
COSTELLO: You are cheating.
HEMMER: Listen, Andy, I'm going to go buy a lotto ticket, so you guys carry on.
SERWER: Yes, I think so. This is really -- I'm just going to ask you, Carol, stay out of this one, please.
COSTELLO: Stay out of this, Bill.
SERWER: Average amount of this shopping that is done in the malls, what percent of shopping by Americans is done in a holiday season in malls?
COSTELLO: Eighty-five percent.
SERWER: Little high. Fifty. But you were going to guess that, weren't you, Bill?
HEMMER: Sixty. I was going to say 60.
SERWER: Yes, sure.
HEMMER: I was going to say 51.
SERWER: Yes, right.
Anyway, we'll be checking up on those retailing stories later in the week. Of course, this is a big season for holiday shopping, and that's going to be the big business story going forward. So you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
COSTELLO: You, too. Does that mean you're not going to be here tomorrow?
SERWER: That's my way of saying I'm not going to be here tomorrow.
HEMMER: Merry Christmas.
SERWER: Merry Christmas to you, too, Bill.
HEMMER: Thanks, Drew (ph).
