LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Nine days and hundreds of tips later, authorities are still at a loss over the whereabouts of a missing California woman. Twenty-seven-year-old Laci Peterson, who is eight months pregnant, vanished on Christmas Eve in Modesto, California and police said that all of the evidence points now to foul play.
Our Ed Lavandera checks in now live from Modesto. He'll give us the very latest.
Good morning, Ed.
ED LAVANDERA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Leon. Well, clearly, very stressful times for Laci Peterson and her family here, as police continue this investigation. We're told that, in about an hour or so, many of the investigators who are working on this case will be gathering here at the police station in Modesto for a daily briefing, giving everyone who's part of this investigation, up to speed as to what's been going on.
There are about a hundred officers that have been working the case, consistently since Laci Peterson disappeared on Christmas Eve. Yesterday, some of those officers had to be pulled away from this case. There was another homicide here in Modesto, that had to be investigated. So some of the officers were pulled away to duty on that -- unrelated to this situation.
But investigators here have interviewed hundreds of sex offenders, parolees, even homeless people, trudging through the park where Laci Peterson was believed to have been taking her dog on a walk on Christmas Eve. Her husband says that when he last saw her on Christmas Eve, 9:30 in the morning, that she intended to walk the dog in the park and then do some last-minute shopping.
Her husband had gone fishing that day, about 85 miles away from here, at the Berkeley Marina and is considered not to be a suspect in this case at this point, but someone that they're looking at, as far as this investigation continues. Not a lot of strong leads at this point. And investigators here just trying to piece together any kind of information from all of the tips that have been coming in. We understand they've gotten about a thousand tips, some credible and some that are not, but that's where the investigation stands, at this point.
Leon?
HARRIS: All right. Thanks, Ed. Here's hoping that they can come up with some good news there, somehow, some way, in Modesto, California.
Happy new year to you, Ed. Lavandera, reporting live from Modesto, California.
LAVANDERA: Same to you.
