PAUL VERCAMMEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Another little twist in this story. Scott Peterson returned home to Modesto after spending most of Sunday handing out fliers at a makeshift volunteer center. He was trying to get the word out about Laci Peterson's disappearance on Los Angeles's streets.

He spent the better part of Monday morning fixing a broken lock on the family home in Modesto after what police called a bizarre burglary. Modesto police say that nothing significant was stolen from the Peterson home and they add that this is not "a smoking gun break in this case."

Now Scott Peterson, as we said, had been down in Los Angeles trying to get the word out about Laci Peterson's disappearance. His friends and family say that he has been victimized by some vicious indo and dismiss all rumors, any report that says that Scott Peterson had a girlfriend.

Meanwhile, as for the investigation, Modesto police have not turned up any sign of Laci Peterson after searching Stanislaus County and surrounding counties for her body.

Reporting from Modesto, Paul Vercammen, CNN.
