PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Time to travel back to Kuwait City, where our partner, Bill Hemmer, is standing by on duty there.
Good morning -- Bill.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Paula, hello again from Kuwait City.

There is an intense buildup of the U.S. military under way right now. If you take the Persian Gulf region as a whole right now, you essentially have roughly 65,000 troops assembled in this region. In Kuwait alone, again a country the size of New Jersey, you have already at least 25,000. Hard-core numbers are difficult to get from the military right not, but at least 25,000 we’re told.

In the northern section of Kuwait, Paula, about a quarter of the country, 25 percent has been essentially blocked off and given to the U.S. military in order for it to carry out its military exercises and maneuvers.

Early last week, they started the first of eight days and eight nights of straight, hard-core training for the U.S. military in the northern part of the country. Again, they train every day. Exercises have been under way day and night all of the time, but really last week started their hard-core push right now for the desert training.

If indeed there is war in Iraq, Kuwait will be the location most likely where the land invasion will originate. Already the troops (UNINTELLIGIBLE) 25,000. It continues to increase by the day -- Paula.

ZAHN: All right, Bill, we’ll be checking in with you in about three minutes or so for a news alert at the top of the hour. Thanks so much.
