PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Laci Peterson's family is turning up the heat on her husband, Scott, to reveal all he knows about his wife's disappearance. Scott broke his silence yesterday, admitting he had been having an affair just weeks before his pregnant wife vanished.
Let's check in with David Mattingly, who is following the investigation from Modesto, California.

Good morning, David,. Anything new?

DAVID MATTINGLY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Paula.

This is Laloma Park. Shortly after Laci Peterson's disappearance on Christmas Eve, this park was teeming with volunteers, people out here looking for the 27-year-old mother to be. It's been a lot quieter since then in the past couple of weeks.

This poster here a constant reminder that the search goes on for Laci Peterson. Her family still calling on the public to come up with any tips they possibly have to keep this investigation going. Laci Peterson's husband, Scott, in fact, doing a little bit of a local media blitz today, talking to a couple of local affiliates here in Modesto.

We have some video to show you to sort of illustrate why he's doing this. Ever since news of his affair became public, he's been greeted and followed by a pack of cameras. This video from the San Francisco Airport yesterday.

Now Scott Peterson says he wants to make sure that the attention is taken off of him and put back on the search for Laci. Laci's family says that while he's talking to the cameras, he should also, however, be talking to the police.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RON GRANTSKI, LACI'S STEPFATHER: He knows who he needs to talk to, and that's the police. So he's got one step in the right direction. He needs to make a couple more, and maybe we can come to an agreement, a final agreement on this.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MATTINGLY: Now, the candles out here at the park still burning, people coming out here to offer their daily remembrances that Laci Peterson is still missing. The search for her now in its 37th day -- Paula. ZAHN: So, David, for the folks who missed this interview that the husband did yesterday with one of the networks, walk us through what he admitted to and what he admitted to telling his wife.

MATTINGLY: Well, there were two very surprising things. First of all, he said that he told police on Christmas Eve, the day that she was reported missing, he said he told them that day that he had had an affair. He also said that he told his wife, Laci, early in December that he had had an affair. And he said under questioning that this was not something that was going to break their marriage apart. So those were the two big items that came out of that interview yesterday.

ZAHN: And what are the police saying about any leads at this point? Are they at all optimistic to speed up the process?

MATTINGLY: Well, they've had about 4,000 tips -- more than 4,000 tips in this case. They say they're following up on every single one they possibly can. As far as anything of substance, they're being very quiet about that, and they have not yet publicly reacted to what they've heard Scott Peterson say.

ZAHN: David Mattingly, thanks for the update. Appreciate it.
