PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: We had a very special Valentine's Day moment here on AMERICA MORNING on Friday, when Marine Lance Corporal Brent Sheets, who is stationed in Kuwait, proposed live on our show. Here's what he said.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
LANCE CPL. BRENT SHEETS, U.S. MARINES: Amanda.
AMANDA GRUBB, BRENT SHEET'S GIRLFRIEND: Yes.
SHEETS: I love you with all my heart, and I want to ask you a very special question.
GRUBB: OK.
SHEETS: I want to spend the rest of life -- I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
GRUBB: I love you.
SHEETS: Will you marry me?
GRUBB: Yes, I will.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ZAHN: Ah! We didn't properly introduce you to Amanda Grub on Friday, but she joins us this morning live from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Good morning, and congratulations.
GRUBB: Good morning.
ZAHN: Has the shock of the on-air proposal gotten to you...
GRUBB: Oh, yes. Oh, yes, very.
ZAHN: ... or left you?
GRUBB: It's still with me.
ZAHN: Were you surprised? Were you expecting him to pop the question?
GRUBB: I had no idea he was going to ask me to marry him. It was a very big surprise.
ZAHN: I understand he was a little bit reluctant to make a commitment before he left and headed off to Kuwait. So, that just wasn't in the cards, was it?
GRUBB: It wasn't in the cards before he left, but I'm glad he made the decision.
ZAHN: Tell me what you think happened. I know the two of you talked a little bit about obviously the vulnerability he feels on duty. Do you think that led to him finally saying, OK, she's the one?
GRUBB: I think it was just the Marine Corps has helped him mature a lot, and I think him being able to make that decision was -- you know, the Marine Corps helped him a lot with growing up and everything, even though he's only 20.
ZAHN: Yes, he is a young man. What has he told you about life at Camp Grizzly?
GRUBB: He said they're all in good spirits. They're just sitting around wait for a decision.
ZAHN: And what does he expect to happen? Do you think he thinks he's going to end up at war?
GRUBB: He really didn't say. But he -- I think he believes that he will. He just told me not to worry, and that's all he really said about it.
ZAHN: And of course, that's probably all you do, right, worry?
GRUBB: Yes, that is all I do is worry.
ZAHN: And of course, your timetable for any marriage will be affected by what goes on over there. Have you talked casually about when the two of you might walk down the aisle together?
GRUBB: He said after he turned corporal, which should be towards the end of the year.
ZAHN: Oh, you don't have that long of a wait.
GRUBB: No.
ZAHN: Well, we wish you the best of luck, and thought that was very nice of you to let us share that very private moment with our audience on Friday.
GRUBB: Thank you.
ZAHN: Have a wonderful marriage.
