JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: The name is Bond, Derek Bond. He's no spy; rather, he's a 72-year-old pillar of his community in Bristol, England. So, why was he thrown in jail by the FBI, while he was on vacation in South Africa? A pretty good question.
Correspondent Richard Quest has the answer from "Over There." He joins us live as he does every Friday from London.
Good morning, sir.
RICHARD QUEST, CNN CORRESPONDENT: A case of a dreadful identity mistake. This is what this one is all about, Jack, and it's a horrifying tale. The man was Derek Bond. He was on a wine tasting holiday with his wife in South Africa. But the FBI thought that he was one of the world's most wanted men. So, guess what? They had him arrested by the South African police.
Now, this is what it's all about. This man is Derek Bond. This man is Derek Sykes. Derek Sykes had stolen Derek Bond's identity and passport many years ago, and so the FBI arrested this man. And guess what? It then took the best part of 26 days languishing on a concrete floor in a South African prison before the FBI bothered to check. No wonder Derek Bond was in tears when he was finally let out.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
DEREK BOND, ARRESTED BY FBI: I have three super children. It's...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Just hold on a second.
BOND: And my grandchildren. I just want to get home.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
QUEST: He just wants to go home, and that's what he's done. And now, of course, Jack, not surprisingly -- the FBI, by the way, has said it's sorry.
CAFFERTY: Yes.
QUEST: So, that's all right then, isn't it? They say they're sorry, a mistake was made, it's all over, they're sorry.
Mr. Bond is thinking of suing them.
CAFFERTY: And you know what? If Im on the jury, he makes a lot of money.
QUEST: Well, all he had for 26 days was a concrete chair to sit on, which then gave him cramps in his back, and a flushing toilet.
CAFFERTY: Well, thank god for small favors. Thank you, Richard. Got to run. I'll see you next Friday. Richard Quest live from "Over There."
