Nationwide Search Under Way for Missing 14-Year-Old

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: There has been a development in the story out of Michigan. We talked with CNN's Jeff Flock last hour. A nationwide search under way for a missing 14-year-old girl. She disappeared, apparently, from inside of her home last weekend. Lindsey Ryan is her name. Said to be, believed anyway, with a convicted killer she met at church, and also a person with whom she had a relationship online with e-mail.
Here's Jeff Flock in Michigan with more.

Jeff, what do you have?

JEFF FLOCK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Indeed, Bill, we have now confirmed they have made it to California. We reported the last hour that there were working on a possible sighting there. They have now confirmed it. The Caste (ph) County Michigan sheriff Joe Underwood telling us that yesterday morning at about 10:00 Pacific time, the two were spotted at a motel, either in or near the town of Grass Valley, California. That's about 90 miles or so southeast of Sacramento. The maintenance person reported seeing him there. He saw a news account after they left, and then put it together. They went back and checked out the license plate number and the license I.D. number, they check out. So a confirmed sighting in northern California. They are hot on the trail, but at this point, still on the loose -- Bill.
