HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's get the view from the White House. Administration officials have just wrapped up their informal daily briefing.
CNN White House correspondent Dana bash attended that so-called off-camera gaggle. She joins us now with the latest on that.
More news on Iraq, right, Dana?
DANA BASH, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: That's right, all Iraq, all the time here at the White House -- Heidi. Ari Fleischer, the White House spokesman, was talking about -- asked about these benchmarks laid out by Prime Minister Blair today, the six benchmarks that Iraq would have to comply with in order to avoid any kind of military action. Ari Fleischer not giving a total 100 percent supporting of that -- of those benchmarks but he did make clear the United States stands shoulder to shoulder with Great Britain in all of its diplomatic efforts.
So kind of being a little bit cautious on those benchmarks as they try work out what the final language will be on any kind of resolution, because they're trying to get as many votes as they possibly can to pass a resolution, to try to pass the resolution at the U.N.
But Ari Fleischer making clear that they are trying to be very cautious publicly about where the votes are, and where they think they're lining up at the Security Council, saying the votes will not be certain until the day of the votes, but also making very clear that he said this is -- quote -- "The final moments of action or inaction at the U.N. Security Council, and that things are winding down diplomatically as far as the U.S. and Iraq is concerned.
COLLINS: All right, Dana Bash, live from the White House, thank you.
