PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Time to talk health headlines now, "House Call" time with Dr. Sanjay Gupta in Atlanta.
Good morning -- Sanjay.
DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN MEDICAL CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Paula.
Yes, an interesting story today coming out of Harvard looking at teenage girls that are at risk of breast cancer and their diet. What study researchers out of Harvard have found after looking at 1,000 teenage girls over 10 years is that eggs, fiber and vegetable fat all seem to reduce the risk of breast cancer later in life. Specifically an egg a day seemed to reduce the risk of breast cancer by about 18 percent long term.
Researchers aren't quite sure what to make of that, aren't ready to recommend an egg a day.
They also found that a hot dog a day also seemed to reduce the risk of breast cancer. They've been trying to coordinate all of that data and figure out what that means for the public.
Also, Paula, coming up at 8:40, we're going to talk about this mysterious pneumonia-like illness, which has been spreading around. There have been some emergency health warnings out there. We're going to try and sort that all out for people -- Paula.
ZAHN: A hot dog a day, an egg a day? Does that make any sense to you?
GUPTA: You know, it really doesnt, and it's got the researchers a little confused as well. The fiber seems to make sense, because it actually binds estrogen, which may decrease the risk of breast cancer. An egg a day, they're going to have to figure out if there's something about the egg, something about the hot dogs that seem to decrease the risk, but not ready to recommend either one of those foods on a daily basis.
ZAHN: Sanjay Gupta, thanks so much. See you in the next hour.
GUPTA: See you.
