PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Now we are going to recap the major war developments overnight, and the man to do that is Renay San Miguel, who has this report.

RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: Recapping major developments in the past few hours: 11:53 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, after a day of fighting between U.S. Marines and Iraqi troops in the port city of Umm Qasr, CNN's Jason Bellini reports the Marines have taken control of the regional Baath Party headquarters.
1:38 a.m., 9:38 a.m. in Iraq, air raid sirens sound in Baghdad following overnight bombing there and in other Iraqi cities.
2:13 a.m., CNN's Alessio Vinci, embedded with the 2nd Marine division, reports new fighting in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriya, after a day in which several Marines were killed and wounded in battle, a day one U.S. officer called the "sharpest engagement of the war thus far."
2:40 a.m., CNN's Chris Plante at the Pentagon reports U.S. special operations forces in Iraq are trying to seize more locations that may hold banned weapons.
On Sunday, U.S. troops captured a facility near the city of Najaf (ph) that Pentagon officials say may have been used to produce chemical weapons. It is not clear if there is anything dangerous still at that plant.
3:04 a.m., Iraqi TV broadcast a speech by Saddam Hussein. He praises the Iraqi armed forces, urges Iraqis to fight coalition forces, and predicts Iraqi victory. There is no indication that the speech was broadcast live.
3:45 a.m., CNN's Walter Rodgers, embedded with the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry, reports that the unit's progress is slow because, sources say, Iraqi forces are using civilians as human shields.
4:00 a.m., Iraqi TV shows pictures of what it says is a downed coalition helicopter south of Baghdad.
4:20 a.m., the first U.S. war casualties arrive at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
I'm Renay San Miguel, and that's a "War Recap."
