PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: We are going to quickly recap some of the most recent war developments.
Leon Harris has the latest on that.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: 12:04 a.m. Eastern, 8:04 a.m. in Iraq: CNN's Walter Rogers traveling with the 7th Calvary reports that Republican Guard fighters are holed up in two cities south of Baghdad.

2:33 a.m.: reporter Richard Gaisford outside of Basra says the British desert rats have full control of the western side of the city, and says that Iraqi mortar fire at civilians trying to cross a bridge out of town continued all weekend.

2:36 a.m.: CNN's Tom Mintier hears from a British military spokesman that British forces in Basra have captured five senior Iraqi officers. Earlier reports that they had captured a general turned out to be wrong.

3:35 a.m.: CNN's Jason Bellini traveling with the Marine Expeditionary Unit, 15th Artillery, reports the Marines are moving into Nasiriyah and getting a friendly reception from civilians they encounter.

4:02 a.m.: Explosions are heard in Basra, mixed with the sound of a call to prayer.

6:04 a.m.: The Iraqi foreign minister says the U.S.-led coalition is being -- quote -- "defeated on all fronts and is retreating."

6:05 a.m.: Loud blasts are heard in Baghdad.

7:10 a.m.: U.S. Central Command says coalition forces hit regime targets overnight, including buildings, an ammunition storage area and Iraqi aircraft sitting on the ground at the H-2 airfield. Brigadier General Vincent Brooks also says clean water is now flowing through a pipeline from Kuwait to Umm Qasr.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Leon Harris, looking back at the past 12 hours, many developments. Another one we are getting right now inside of Baghdad, apparently the air defenses in and around the city, according to Central Command, have been weakened to the point where the strike fighters can dive at much lower levels of altitude before up leashing their assault there on the Iraqi capital.
