CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: 2:09 a.m. Eastern Time, 10:10 a.m. in Baghdad: A Pentagon official tells CNN that U.S. forces have entered one of Saddam Hussein's presidential palaces. He says the action sends a message that -- quote -- "We can go where we want when we want."

2:26 a.m.: A British military spokesman tells Reuters that British forces are in control of most of the city of Basra.

2:32 a.m. Eastern Time: The Iraqi information minister holds an outdoor briefing, telling reporters that there are no American troops in Baghdad.

2:58 a.m.: The Al Jazeera TV network shows live pictures from the city of Mosul. Al Jazeera says the explosions are caused by a burning ammunition dump.

3:17 a.m.: Associated Press quotes a British officer, who says the body of Ali Hassan Al Majeed has been found in Basra. Al Majeed, Saddam Hussein's cousin, is know as "Chemical Ali" because of his use of chemical weapons against Iraqi Kurds back in 1988.

5:02 a.m.: CNN's Walter Rodgers reports U.S. Army sources tell him an Iraqi missile hit the tactical operation center for the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry, resulting in U.S. casualties.

6:45 a.m.: President Bush departs Washington to travel to northern Ireland for a summit meeting with his coalition partner, British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
