BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Monday morning now, 8:17 a.m. here in New York City. Want to take you back several hours right now. The latest war developments. Carol Costello is tracking that for us -- here is Carol.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: 2:29 a.m., the Al-Jazeera network shows live pictures from Tikrit, where U.S. Marines have moved into the center of the city. The Marines are still running into resistance from some Saddam loyalists.

3:14 a.m., CNN's Michael Holmes in Baghdad reports the largest demonstration so far is going on in the Iraqi capital. He says the anti-U.S. protests in the past few days are mainly to express people's frustration over widespread looting in the city.

4:02 a.m., CNN's Tom Mintier reports U.S. Central Command says it was friendly fire that brought down a Navy Hornet fighter jet south of Baghdad on April 2, killing the pilot. CENTCOM says the plane was hit by a patriot missile.

6:25 a.m., Matthew Fisher, a correspondent for the "National Post" of Canada reports from Tikrit that the city is calm and the Marines are inside one of Saddam Hussein's largest and most opulent palace compounds, checking out the network of tunnels underneath it.
