HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: In Iraq today, at least two Iraqi were killed and five captured after gunmen opened fire on a U.S. patrol with rocket propelled grenades.
Karl Penhaul has more now by video phone from Fallujah -- hello to you, Karl.
KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Heidi.
Yes, a U.S. Army Bradley fighting vehicle like the one you can see behind me came under fire from a rocket propelled grenade last night. That was the trigger for a firefight that lasted about two hours and left two Iraqis dead and five are still in detention in connection with that incident.
We talked to Captain Mike Reedmiller (ph), who was one of the commanders, and he's told us this. He said that as a routine patrol moved through an area of Fallujah, a man stepped out of a dark alley (AUDIO GAP) rocket propelled grenade. There were three (AUDIO GAP) from one of the (UNINTELLIGIBLE) rocket launchers, as well. Those didn't impact. Those didn't hit.
Men then on the ground, Iraqis, opened fire with AK-47s. There were some snipers on roofs firing down on a Bradley and a tank. And in the course of that firefight, a pickup truck tried to ram another Bradley fighting vehicle. Soldiers opened fire and killed the two occupants inside -- Heidi.
COLLINS: All right, Karl Penhaul, thanks so much for the update on that situation.
